Several years ago, as my friends and I were exiting our college years, we found ourselves in a silly state whilst talking about attending a birthday party. Oh the angst of being semi-poor newly graduated college student who feels the need to bring a gift to the party! Hehe…
The mixture of our angst and silliness produced one of those belly-laugh moments. You know, the kind of moment that NO ONE else will think is funny….but for some reason, in that moment, it’s pretty much the funniest thing ever! Sigh…moments like that are awesome!
In this EPIC delirium kind-of moment, we found ourselves chanting (when we could catch a breath between laughs), “My presence is the present y’all!”
Come on! That’s funny! Imagine busting up into a party, with your hands in the air, declaring, “My presence is the present y’all!” Hehehehe….oh, goodness…well, it was funny to us!
It’s really fun how God uses all kinds of experiences in our lives in order to teach us something about Himself.
This Tozer quote rocked my world last week when I read it,
“The blessing of worship is getting to come into the presence of God, knowing that you are welcomed in His presence as He is in your presence.”A.W. Tozer
This landed heavy on my heart because it’s something that the Lord has already been churning in me over the last year or so.
I GET to be in a relationship with God Himself! This is huge and I often take it for granted.
That’s just awesome all by itself. Kind-of like it’s awesome when we read that Adam and Eve got to literally walk and talk with God in the garden. How cool! They were hanging out with the Creator of ALL things!
But its even more awesome in light of my sin. My rebellious, relationship-breaking sin.
The sin in my heart declares war against God. It creates tension and strife. Apart from Christ, we are not cool with God. There isn’t peace in the relationship. In fact, the Word says that we are God’s enemies (Romans 5:10). It also says that we were alienated from God (Colossians 1:21).
Mankind’s biggest problem after the Fall was the fact that they were no longer able to be the presence of God. That means it was my BIGGEST problem as well.
If that was my biggest problem…is the presence of God not now my greatest gift? Yes! I GET to be in the presence of God again!
For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in [Jesus],
And through Him to RECONCILE everything to Himself
By making PEACE through the blood of His cross…Colossians 1:20
Thank you Jesus for making PEACE through your blood! Thank you for relieving the relationship-breaking tension that my sin caused! Thank you for providing a way for me be in relationship with God once again!
I’m not sure how much of a present MY presence is. :) That’s part of what makes our silly chant so funny to me.
But Tozer is right, the blessing (A.k.a: the present!) of worship is that we get to be in the presence of God Himself! Not only do we get to…we are WELCOMED in! And He comes to dwell with us as well.
Wow! Let’s not take that for granted as we spend times in personal and corporate worship.
Let’s not take it for granted, but let’s definitely take ADVANTAGE of this great present!
Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with BOLDNESS…Hebrews 4:16
If you are truly giving someone a present, you want them to enjoy the gift. So, enjoy the fact that you have access to the very presence of God! Indulge in the presence of God! I pretty sure that it pleases Him for you and I to do so.
Praying that you will be joyfully overwhelmed by present of His presence today!
Love you all!
