Have you ever closed your Bible and thought, “What did I just read?”
In my twenties, I had aspirations of reading my Bible in a year and fell off the train so many times. Most of the time, it happened when I hit long sections of the Word where I didn’t understand what was happening, I didn’t have a cultural or literary context for the book, or I didn’t see how what I was reading fit into God’s big story.
I discovered this resource about five years ago, and it has been the greatest help to me in enjoying God’s Word daily and growing in the knowledge of who He is.
“The Bible Recap” was created by Tara-Leigh Cobble and comes with a host of resources in different formats to help you open your Bible every day and read it in a year. You can also take it at a pace that fits your season and enjoy picking back up where you left off each day.
Each day’s reading is followed by a quick commentary that helps you understand three things:
How the passage fits into the “meta-narrative” of Scripture (God’s big story of creation, Fall, redemption, and restoration through Jesus).
What the main themes are, along with any important or unfamiliar concepts/terms, to help you understand the passage.
The Daily “God Shot” - A quick insight into how God’s character is displayed in the day’s passage. I love this section because I notice different things each year. Intentionally looking first for who God is instead of how I can apply the reading to my own life has revolutionized the way I read my Bible and reminds me every time I open it that “He is where the joy is.”
You can order the physical book on Amazon or follow along on the podcast. Each day’s reading or podcast episode only takes 5-10 minutes. It is packed with helpful information and beautiful insights into God’s character and the big story He is telling, with Jesus at the center of it all.
I love having both so I can keep the book at home and use the podcast when I’m on the go. The physical book is half-off on Amazon right now, so snag a copy! I lent mine to a friend, so I’m grabbing an extra book to start reading through the New Testament again this Fall!
