That time we sang in a castle

It has been a packed week! We even sang in a castle. More on that later ;)

While our big kids were away at “family camp,” we had special visitors in KY. Jonathan’s sister, Lauren, came to stay for a few days and experience all things camp with us.

Milo enjoyed having a special buddy (especially for dance parties!), and we loved palling around with “Lala” for a couple of days, sharing and tasting ALL the things we love here in Campbellsville.

One more fun thing to share, I learned to sew a bit this summer.

I have to shamefully confess that I’ve had my sewing machine for over seven years, but I finally got the ball rolling this spring when a dear friend of mine found out she was expecting a baby girl after having five boys. I wanted to make her little girl something and decided this was my moment to dive into the deep end and finally learn my machine. Thankfully I had help. Lauren jumped in before me and held my hand through all the scary bits.

I’m happy to report that the first dress was a triumph. And thus, I couldn’t wait to make more dresses for our June-girl.

I have to say that sewing is both easier and more difficult than I thought. The end product was so worth it, though, and I’ve found it to be a calming and life-giving way to make something with my hands for people I love. If you want to try your hand at a cute toddler dress, here’s the pattern I used (click here).

Over the weekend, our big kids returned, and we popped over to Wapakoneta, OH, for a special evening with Harvest Baptist Church.

One of the things we get to do for work is writing songs for other ministries like LifeWay Kids and Answers in Genesis.

We contributed and recorded three songs for the 2023 Answers in Genesis VBS curriculum Keepers of the Kingdom. Having friends text us throughout the summer when they recognized our voices has been especially meaningful. 😊

The kids and families at Harvest Baptist had their VBS last week, and we got the treat of ending their week with a bit of worship and a short concert. And we did this all in a very festive medieval castle!

We also got to spend time with our dear friends, the Harrells.

We enjoyed friendship, refreshing conversation, and pancakes before returning to KY Monday morning. One of our favorite things about our life together is that we have friends all over the country that are like family.

It’s hard to believe, but we’re heading into our final week in Campbellsville and can hardly believe this summer is coming to a close. It’s been a beautiful summer so far. Please pray for us to finish well. Though we love camp, it’s easy at the end of the summer to slip into not being as present here at camp as we look forward to the year ahead.
